Penguin Plight Education Session

From AUD $250.00
  • Duration: 60 Minutes (approx.)
  • Location: City of Victor Harbor, SA
  • Product code: PPES

The Fairy Penguin (Eudyptula minor) who call Granite Island home
are low in numbers with an estimated 25 little penguins left on Granite Island
(as per the last penguin census run by Flinders University 2022). Their numbers
have been in steep decline down from 1,600 in the early 2000s. Little
penguins are the smallest penguin species and are only found in southern
Australia and New Zealand.

This education
session on the Fairy Penguins is facilitated by dedicated volunteers of the Friends of
Granite Island, who are also Penguin Monitors for the Flinders University
Penguin Monitoring volunteer group.

The aim of this education session is to provide participants with
an understanding of how to share Granite Island with the vulnerable Fairy
Penguin species. How to interact and how not to interact would be the key
messages, along with how the individual can do their part to build up the habitat
on Granite Island as part of the National Schools Tree Planting Day
